| For starters... 1) Decide your strategy. Are you in rebuild mode, win now mode, or somewhere in between? 2) What do you want your team to look like? RB dependent, balanced, etc. 3) Is there anyone you want to franchise, renegotiate, or trade. Keep in mind you can trade the rights to RFAs (players with 0.5 years). Tomlinson should be a huge factor in how you play things. How much do you think he's got left? The answer to that question should dictate a lot of how you play things imo. Few tips... Contract $ and years are huge factors in a players value. If you look at my roster, you'll notice I have Chris Johnson @ $3000 for 3.5 years. That's HUGE. Because of that contract, I'd say he's by far the most valuable player in the league at this point. I also noticed Strong Bad has D. Jackson locked up for 4.5 years at $300, I doubt rjohmit would trade him for anything. Those are just two examples of how big the draft can be in a league like this. When it comes time to designate contract years, you always want to give your potential long term investments x.5 contracts, so they'll be RFAs when their contract ends. PS - Feel free to e-mail or PM me on KFFL if you have any specific questions. |

| few things i've noticed in this style of league... as Xulu points outs, bargains are important but don't be afraid to spend. nothing worse than having a .500 team with 20k left unspent. generic auction league strategies generally do not work. it is possible to sniff out bargains, but if you think you will wait and get a good ufa on the cheap late you are mistaken. at least 1 or 2 other owners will find a way to get the bidding up to market value. like the real nfl draft rookies are somewhat of a crapshoot. i drafted as rookies Calvin Johnson and Matt Leinart for ex.; both are locked up long term. one was a great signing, the other has just been eating salary and contract cap space. when setting contracts, look at the general league makeup. like the NBA, you may find you want to time extensive cap space with certain players hitting the market. hope this helps... |
